Amarillo PIT count finds rise in first-time homelessness as housing costs climb

Homelessness is rising in Amarillo, and new data show more people are losing stable housing for the first time. The 2026 annual Point-in-Time count found 124 people were experiencing homelessness for the first time. The count also showed an overall increase in homelessness in the area, rising from 641 people last year to 728 this year. Watch the full segment on ABC 7 Amarillo.
